Summary

Francois Fejto: From Budapest to Paris via Zagreb - memoirs

FEJTŐ, Ferenc (François), writer and publicist (Nagykanizsa, 31 August 1909). A member of Budapest's progressive literary circles in the 1930s. Before the regime's persecution, he emigrated to Paris in 1938, where he engaged in journalistic and literary work. After a trip to Yugoslavia in 1935, his prose diary Sentimental trip (Érzelmes utazaz, Budapest 1935) was written, in which an interview with Krleža and a detailed description of his activities were published. He also published the details of that meeting in the most respected Hungarian magazine Nyugat (Budapest 1935, 11), which is one of the first articles about Krleža published abroad. Fejtő devoted many pages of his memoir From Budapest to Paris via Zagreb (Zagreb 1989) to contacts with Krlež.
