Dalmatinska ampelografija

Bulić Stjepan

Summary

Stjepan Bulić: Dalmatian ampelography

Reprint from 1949. Describing the first grape varieties found exactly one hundred years ago (the work was completed in 1925), Bulić confirmed the existence of original varieties from vineyards in Dalmatia. Since then - for known and unknown reasons - many varieties have disappeared from our regions, but many have also disappeared from our consciousness. If Bulić hadn't recorded and described them, we probably wouldn't even know that some of those varieties grew in our area. The new age brings new demands and intentions. General globalization is equating all areas, which is also present in viticulture. In the last few decades, varieties of foreign origin have covered our vineyards, increasingly reducing the areas with autochthonous varieties. However, it was understood that the local ampelographic treasure should be preserved and that the original varieties give personality, authenticity and special values to our wine offer. Thus, the whole process of the resurrection of the original Dalmatian varieties was started - of which only a few vines remained in some places. In this process, an important role in the detection of certain varieties is played by Bulić's Ampelography Somewhat forgotten, it has once again become a current work and a source of many useful data in the restoration of old and forgotten autochthonous Dalmatian varieties.
