Summary
Česta Bibertal: Painful Slavonia
"While in the novel Confusion of Life, in the form of a chronicle, he considers the position of Serbs in Croatia, especially emphasizing the last decades of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st century, although Česta Bibertal returns to the same topic, in the book Bolna Slavonija he now does so in a short, fragmented form, which gives the text a special dynamic. Into a historical and crowded fresco of Serbian Croatian relations, the author introduces destinies and events that testify to the nature of these complex relationships in the space of Bibertal's prose, whose personal lives and relationships depict a dramatic era of conflict, persecution, and intolerance, especially in Slavonic areas. It is not just memoirs, nor just essays, but all of it together Slavonija, through honest and lived experience, offers the reader one of the possible truths about the painful, cruel and revolutionary time of the recent past in the Balkans."
