Summary
Miroslav Krleža: Golgotha
first edition
Golgotha is political. a drama that, related to the simultaneous theatrical and dramatic works of Toller, Jung, Piscator and Soviet writers and directors, but also independent of them, thematizes the situation in Eur. the labor movement after the October Revolution, conflicts and splits in the Second and Third Internationals; in that text "we discover a new dramatic dimension of Krležin's anti-bourgeois theater, as well as a poet of eminently political theatre, a playwright who from the fragments of political reality and utopian ideology (...) constructs a political theater of revolutionary action as a form of the most radical struggle against the defeatist reconciliation of poetry and realism in bourgeois dramaturgy" (B. Donat).
