The Witch of Greece is a popular six-part novel cycle by Maria Jurić Zagorka, which consists of the novels The Secret of the Bloody Bridge, Countess Nero, Malleus maleficarum, Rival of Maria Theresa, Dvorska camarila and Rebel on the throne.
The plot of The Greek Witch is set in the turbulent 18th century. It is neither possible nor necessary to retell the branched and very intricate plot of individual parts. In addition to the basic historical story, seasoned with love plots and intrigues, Zagorka regularly provides a broad panorama of Croatian society and its class stratification, while expertly connecting the ideological turmoil and battles at court with the contemporary situation
