Kurelac Fran

Summary

Fran Kurelac: Jačka or folk songs of the simple Croatian people in the counties of Šoprun, Mošonj and Željezna in Ugria

Jačka (dijačka, đačka; from diačiti, jačiti: to sing), a song that is sung in the northwestern parts of Croatia, especially among Croats in Gradišće and Bunjevac near Subotica. In the legacy of F. K. Frankapan, there are songs similar to folk songs, which he labeled as Student Heroes. P. Vitezović Ritter named one of his poems Senjčica, or the girl from Senj on the sea of heroism. The most famous are Jačke folk songs of the Croats of Gradišća, which were collected and published by F. Kurelac under the title Jačke, or folk songs of the simple and non-simple population of Croatia in the counties of Šoprunska, Mošonjska and Željezna na Ugrih (1871).
