Milan Begović achieved full recognition for his poetry already with his poetry collection Knjiga Boccadoro (1900), one of those works that did not leave anyone indifferent at the time of its publication, and with its distinct modernist orientation, poetic aestheticism with a hedonistic-erotic component, it stirred the spirits of both the "old" and the "young", so Begović's poetry was welcomed on the literary horizon, numerous controversies, but also thunderous praises.Becoming one of the most prominent representatives of Croatian aestheticism in the era of Croatian modernism, Begović enjoyed great sympathy from the best Croatian modernist poets, the "young ones", because of his larpurartism, because of his songs full of eroticism, love longing and celebration of eternal beauty, but also experienced numerous attacks by pseudo-moralists, who called him out for alleged Croatian pornography and effective fashionability, and it is precisely from the Book of Boccadoro that the sometimes completely incomprehensible, negative reception of his literary creativity originates, which in some parts of criticism followed him until his death.
