Menzies-Pike Catriona

Summary

Catriona Menzies-Pike: Long distance racing

At thirty, Catriona Menzies-Pike first put on tennis shoes and started running, and soon long distance racing became her passion and the most challenging goal in life. Namely, in her childhood she went to remedial physical education, she was happy to play joggers in the early mornings, and books were her refuge after the death of her parents in a plane crash. Although no one believed that she would achieve her plan, her will, persistence and desire to change her life took her from the parks and beaches of Sydney to the marathon in New York. Along with the passion for freedom of movement that helped her come to terms with the traumas she had experienced, she also began to research the unknown past of women's running. And the fight for equality in running was truly long, for example, at the Olympic Games, women were not allowed to run in disciplines longer than 800 meters until 1960, and the first women's marathon was held only in 1973. On the Long Tracks is a unique combination of the history of this popular sport and the life story of a runner who shows by her example that true passion overcomes all obstacles.
