Summary
Mihaela Šumić: Several Small Stings
"This is not simple poetry. "Several Small Stings" are anything but small. The phrase from the title is a clear allusion to Frida Kahlo's painting of the same name (Frida was inspired by a newspaper article about a murderer who, commenting on the murder of his wife, who he stabbed multiple times, said: "It was just a few small stabs."). The author takes this sentence, already overloaded with symbolism, and putting it in the title of the book (it should be noted that the title perfectly matches the collection), gives it additional meanings that correspond to the earlier ones. By murder, death and pain. Frida and the heroines of Mihaela's poems are those in which something is killed and that something manifests itself through painful testimonies, one in pictures, and the other in songs. They both know and recognize the reality full of violence and do not shy away from witnessing it." Tanja Stupar Trifunović
