Anna Bolava: Ka dnu
With her second novel, Anna Bolava returns us to the atmosphere of everyday life in a small town in the south of the Czech Republic, but this time, instead of sunny afternoons and meadows full of medicinal herbs, we are greeted by the first winter frosts. , impassable swamps shrouded in eerie fog, motives of crimes and tragic fates, numerous characters. The starting point of the novel is the discovery of the body of a missing teacher in a marshy area outside the city center, but the motive of the crime in a small town is only one of the lines of the story. The author skillfully builds a network of convincing characters such as the girl Anjička and the single mother Milada who works in a nearby poultry meat processing factory, the local journalist Petr Malek who perceives the story of the sudden discovery of a corpse as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity or Hana who returns to her hometown, to the old house from her childhood, in order to find answers to numerous questions from the past. The destinies of the characters intertwine and intersect, and the depiction of life in a small town served the author as an occasion to touch on numerous topics - social and personal.
