Summary
Asta Olivia Nordenhof: Full Pockets
Full Pockets is the first of seven novels in the Scandinavian Star series, based on the ferry that burned down in 1990, after an unsolved arson attack that killed 159 people. The fire was set for financial gain as part of an insurance scam. The novel shows the human destiny faced with the cruel and cynical mechanisms of capitalism in the story of the main characters Kurt and Maggie and a brutal but also humorous depiction of their relationship. Their lives take place on the margins of the welfare state concept of the 1980s. Fueled by liberal fiscal policy, capitalism crushes everything before it, turning into an increasingly powerful and seemingly unstoppable force that leaves behind an ever-increasing number of victims.
