Jan Wolkers 1925-2007 is one of the most famous Dutch writers of the 20th century. It is rare that a visual artist (Wolkers was a recognized sculptor) excels so much in literature. And it all started with the famous novel Turkish Fruit (1969), which Paul Verhoeven immediately filmed. In the flood of "sweets" of our time, Jan Wolkers has written a great romance novel.
