Summary
Slađana Nina Perković: In the ditch
When the mother of the heroine of this novel, who also plays the role of narrator, runs into the room and interrupts her watching her favorite crime series, the almost crazy and chaotic world of the story begins to open before the readers, created by a series of events such as the funeral of Aunt Stana who choked on a piece of chicken and thus undermined the plans to sell the family house and land, a world filled with unusual visits to police stations and clinics, heroes who unsuccessfully try to commit suicide, those who erect monuments to themselves years in advance or experience a personal rebirth after deciding to enter the world of smuggling. Slađana Nina Perković builds a novelistic world with each new page, which is built on the depiction of everyday life, only that everyday life is pushed almost to the very limits of absurdity and grotesque, with extremely sharp language and a significant dose of dark humor. The funeral and the sale of the family house and land, those events that we almost automatically perceive as tragic or shocking, in this novel are transformed into something funny that serves us not to ignore the tragedy and reality, but to make it easier to understand the whole. The image of the world we belong to is shared.
