Summary
Stjepo Martinović: The Bricklayer of the Devil's Bridge
In this novel (thoroughly reworked version of the work "Okovani snima"), the author presents a romanticized historical fresco from the second half of the 17th century, the action of which begins on the day of the catastrophic earthquake that destroyed Dubrovnik on April 6, 1667: one traveler, for whom the city was supposed to be the last stop on a 22-year-long journey through the Balkans - in a three-way mission, collector of information about all kinds of economic activities, confessor and preacher, and interpreter of dreams to the people he met during those years - he was left without a huge collection of records about everything he noticed during the long years of wandering through the Balkan wilderness; spasio je samo tajnu geografsku kartu područja južno od Save i Dunava do Egeja, sa stotinama jedino njemu znanih znakova... a izostao je i njegov susret s poslodavčevim predstavnikom koji je tog dana trebao doploviti venecijanskim brodom iz Korčule.
