Summary
Pietro Santini: Nouvelle carte de l'Istrie : suivant le plan dresse sur les lieux / Map of Istria
Copper engraving
The map of Istria was published in Santini's work "Atlas Universel" published in Venice by Pietro Santini.
Santini was served as a template for this map by a similar map of Istria published by Giovanni Salmon in 1753 in his work "Lo stato presente di tutti i paesi e popoli del mondo" published by Albrizzi in Venice in 1753. It mainly differs from the template only in its graphic design. Drawn between the borders of the County of Pazin and the border of Venetian Istria towards Carniola. The relief is shown by shaded molehills, and the vegetation by a tree symbol. The title of the map is in the upper right corner in a cartouche designed in the Rococo style. The scale of the map is expressed in Italian miles (Miglia d' Italia).
Pietro (Paolo) Santini. At the end of the 18th century, he made maps of parts of western and eastern Dalmatia. The Nuovelle carte de la partie occidentale de Dalmatie from 1780 is kept in the State Archives in Zadar and in the University Library in Split. His Nouvelle carte de la partie orientale de Dalmatie from the same year is preserved in the Archives of the Archdiocese of Split and in the University Library in Split. In the University Library in Split, there are two maps by Pietro Santini that he made in co-authorship with Franz Anton Schraembl: Westlicher theil von Dalmatien and Ostlicher theil von Dalmatien.
