Summary
Mula Mustafa Bašeskija: The Chronicle
The "Chronicle" of Mula Mustafa Bašeskija is a document of first-rate importance for the political and cultural history of Sarajevo and Bosnia. In the middle of the 18th century, the scribe Bašeski began writing his book, the famous 'Chronicle', and continued with this work for the next fifty years. In the first part of his notebook, Bašeskija wrote down various events, circumstances and phenomena from his life, and in the second part he recorded the names of deceased friends, acquaintances and fellow citizens. In "Chronicle" we find people similar to us, pressed by similar challenges, dares, hopes and fears. Sometimes Bašeskija, the greatest chronicler that Sarajevo has ever had, offers us witty and even bizarre notes, but he always tries, unobtrusively and modestly, to offer a lesson as well.
