Summary
Božena Vranješ-Šoljan: Gradišćanski Croats: between tradition and modernity
Gradišćanski Croats: Between tradition and modernity – part of the emigrant Croatian nation – today they are a unique autochthonous minority community in Central Europe. Peculiarities of centuries-old historical circumstances in a relatively closed and traditional village community enabled the Croats of Gradišće to preserve their culture and language and to develop their own national consciousness based on the Croatian tradition. The book examines elements of the social, political, demographic and cultural development of almost five centuries of history of the Croats of Gradišće. Among other things, the author writes about the problem of Croatian colonization, spatial distribution, spiritual horizon, religious feeling, literature, knowledge, education, political and social changes in the region, demographic trends, integrative and assimilation processes, and the future of the Croats of Gradišća.
The book is intended for history teachers and historians, as well as anyone interested in the issues of the emigrant Croatian people, especially Croats from Gradišće.
