Summary

Bible

Bible or Holy Scripture is a collection of books that Hebrews and Christians consider sacred in their own way. It is divided into two large parts: the Old and the New Testament. Christians study the Bible as their normative, guiding book for life, in which they find the message -- the word of God. However, the Bible is also a monument of the history of mankind, one of the oldest books, in which the genius of the Hebrew assimilated and further enriched the thinking and wisdom of ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt, and then, enriched by the Greek genius, brought it into the Greco-Roman world of that time, according to the New Testament and further Christian thinking. In terms of origin and language, content and style, imagery and metaphor, the Bible is not a single book, but a collection of books that were created in the period from the 13th century BC. BC to the 2nd century AD. For Christians, the Bible is a holy, inspired and canonical book. Antun Sovic's translation was chosen as the starting text, with the Petonknjije being translated by Silvije Grubišić, Psalms by Filibert Gass, and Pjesma nad pjesjema by Nikola Miličević. The New Testament was translated by Ljudevit Rupčić.
