Fratelli tutti is the third encyclical of Pope Francis and talks about brotherhood and social friendship. The title is inspired by the words of St. Francis who writes: All of us, brothers, let us look at the good shepherd, who endures the pain of the cross to save his sheep (Admonitions, VI, 1: Franciscan sources, Council of Franciscan Communities of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, 2012, 200), and brotherhood, that is, brothers - especially the smallest - is one of the key themes of Pope Francis' teaching from the very beginning of his pontificate. Pope Francis recognized the brothers in those invisible people - migrants - whom he embraced on the island of Lampedusa, in prisoners, homeless people and all those he met and went to meet during his pontificate. Many others are also brothers - believers he meets, religious leaders (patriarchs, imams and others). The encyclical talks about the open and closed world, about globalization and the pandemic, about open and about closed societies, about refugees and human rights, about the general purpose of goods and private property, about populism and liberalism, about political love in action and the social dialogue that leads to a new culture, about love for one's own people, about forgiveness and forgetting - these are just some of the topics that are dealt with on the basis of the Church's rich tradition of social teaching.
