Summary

Mark Gibbs: The Virgin and the Priest

The reasons why the Gospel writers hesitated to state clearly that John the Baptist was the elder brother of Jesus has given rise to many questions. The book The Virgin and the Priest was written with the thesis that Zechariah was their common biological father. The early Christians, in their desire to evangelize the Baptists, should not have risked portraying John too negatively in their written materials.
For the first time, translations of certain passages of the Qumran writings, which the author attributes in some places to John the Baptist, were brought into Croatian. It provides a comparative account of New Testament quotations and the Qumran writings, and the "creation of the messiah" is described in the context of early Christianity, the Crusades, Renaissance painting, and historiography that was censored throughout history. The talk about the "teacher of righteousness" and the "evil priest" is therefore perhaps the most valuable archaeological discovery of the 20th century.
