The book Different and united contains the words and speeches of Pope Francis on the topic of interpersonal relations and communication, as the art of self-giving and acceptance of the other who is a gift. The subtitle I communicate, therefore I am wants to emphasize that the personal uniqueness of everyone, in fact, comes to light precisely in communication - the way in which we meet others in order to build togetherness. The real core of the Holy Father's words in this book are brought by catechisms about the family, spoken during Wednesday audiences.
The foreword for the book was written by Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, leader of the Anglican Communion. He emphasizes that the heart of the Christian faith - which is shared at the ecumenical level - is the discovery and proclamation - of God's Love, the communion of persons, which is manifested in friendship and brotherhood, based on benevolence and forgiveness.
The book ends with a previously unpublished text of Pope Francis, in which he presents us with the Gospel story about the rich young man (cf. Mk 10, 17-27), which Jesus' gaze of love reaches. It is, in fact, a look addressed to all of us: if we accept it, it allows us to look at others with true love. It is the beginning of eternal life, paradise, which is abiding in love.
