Summary
Edward Herman, Robert McChesney: Global Media
The New Missionaries of Corporate Capitalism
The work Global Media was written by two leading American media experts. It offers a very accessible, but also expert overview of developments in the global media industry based on the latest data and results of scientific research. In the first part of the book, the authors deal with the emergence and development of the global media system and analyze the political, economic and technological causes that led to its sudden rise. The following chapters are devoted to researching the multiple influence of global media on national media systems, with special attention being paid to different reactions to such developments. The intention of the authors, as they themselves point out, was to contribute to a better understanding of the dynamic development in this area and point out its consequences, as well as a possible alternative to the existing media structure, which, in their opinion, should be more democratic.
