Summary
Henri Behar, Michel Carassou: Dada: the history of a subversion
The name "Dada" first appeared in Zurich in 1916, in an issue of Cabaret Voltaire, a modernist magazine around which avant-garde poets and painters who fled to Switzerland gathered. Instead of an introduction, the editors of the publication, Hugo Ball, reminded, in French and German, of the journey from the establishment of the cabaret dedicated to the writer Candide to the upcoming publication of the Dada magazine: "Today, with the help of our friends from France, Italy and Russia, we are publishing this book. It should accurately describe the activity of the cabaret whose goal is to remind that, on the other side of war and parties, there are independent people who live for other ideals. The intention of the artists gathered here is to publish an international magazine. The magazine will will be released in Zurich and will be called "DADA".
