Flavius ​​Philostratus: The Life of Apollonius of Tyana

  Like most historical heroes from the ancient past, whose lives and deeds are markedly different from those of the ordinary human race, Apollonius has remained an enigma to this day who has not found his Oedipus. His life is shrouded in such a veil of secrecy that it is often misunderstood as a fairy tale, a myth. However, according to all the laws of logic and reason, it is absolutely clear that Apollonius should not be seen in this light. If the Tiyan theurgist can be considered a fictional person, then history has no right to its Caesars and Alexanders. It is absolutely true that this sage, who until today is unrivaled in miraculous powers - on the basis of historically confirmed evidence - entered the scene of public life, without perhaps anyone knowing where he came from, and disappeared from it, without perhaps anyone knowing where he went. But the reasons for this are obvious. All means were used - especially during the fourth and fifth centuries after Christ - to erase the memory of exalted and holy people from people's minds. The Christians prevented the publication of their biographies, which were numerous and exhilarating, and for this, as we shall see, they had strong reasons. In an extremely miraculous way, Damis's diary has survived, and is the only one left to tell the story. However, it must not be forgotten that Justin Martyr often speaks of Apollonius, and the character and truthfulness of that good man are impeccable, especially since he had good reason to feel confused. Likewise, the fact cannot be disputed that in the first six centuries there was hardly a conscious person who did not mention Apollonius. H.P. Blavatsky
