Summary
Sally Rooney: Beautiful world, where are you?
Young writer Alice decides to move from Dublin to a small town in the west of Ireland, where she meets storekeeper Felix through Tinder and, despite the first failed date, unexpectedly invites him to travel with her to the launch of her novel. In Dublin, her best friend Eileen is having a hard time and starts dating Simon, her childhood sweetheart, again.
Alice, Felix, Eileen and Simon are still young, but life takes them. They need each other, play with each other, grow closer and further apart, make love, doubt themselves and their feelings, but most of all they are worried about the world they live in - a world on the brink of ecological disaster, ruled by Trump, the world of neoliberalism. They wonder if they are the last to witness the end of an era, how to help the impoverished, whether they will manage to restore their own faith in our wonderful world.
Wonderful world, where are you is a love novel and a novel about friendship, a philosophical and ecological discussion, but above all a work in which Sally Rooney bravely, unreservedly and murderously accurately outlines the state of our consciousness and our world, a novel that justifies the epithet of the best writer of her generation.
