A prominent Croatian doctor, expert of international health organizations, Dr. Andrija Štampar, kept this diary on his travels around the world between 1931 and in 1938. He met with different people, from presidents and ministers to diplomats and famous professors and scientists. He was a witness to numerous events, such as the Italian occupation of Abyssinia, the Japanese-Chinese war, the Soviet five-year plans, and the emergence of dictatorships in Europe. In Dnevnik he also described small histories, the fates of ordinary people, above all peasants, in the whirlwinds of war, poverty, illness and personal tragedies. Štampar's personal life and the life of his family are intertwined in Dnevnik. The book was published on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the birth and 50th anniversary of the death of Andrija Štampar. The co-publishers of the book are the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, the School of Public Health "Andrija Štampar" and Central Europe.
