Apolonius Rođanin: Experiences of the Argonauts
The bilingual edition, the first in Croatian, of the ancient Greek epic of Apollonius Rođanin, along with necessary information about the writer and the epic (over 5000 hexameters), introduces the reader to the contents of each chapter in the preface. The great and dangerous journey of the Argonauts to Colchis in search of the golden fleece is riddled with dangers and thus temptations in the search for a way out and salvation, often reflecting on events and phenomena, in a mythical way, recording knowledge from cosmic considerations to earthly activities and skills. They are powerful descriptions of nature, unusual events, customs, rituals, especially love, with inevitable humor. With a learned style, the writer reached perfection, since he nurtured longer literary forms, especially essays. According to historians, he worked in the Library of Alexandria and practiced his literary craft in the company of literary dissidents, Theophrastus, Callimachus and others.
