Summary
Janine Matillon: Two things of Orimita Karabegović
Translated from French by Ana Kolesarić
The main character of the novel, Orimita Karabegović, is the daughter of a Croat and a Muslim, teaches French literature in Zagreb and writes a doctoral dissertation on Mallarmé. Searching in northern Bosnia for her seriously wounded father, Orimita runs into some kind of monstrous brothel designated for "insemination", where there are selected girl-prisoners, the most beautiful, healthiest and most educated, mostly Muslim, but also Croatian, forced to atone for the fact that they do not belong to the "heavenly people" by being inseminated.
