The Auditor is an extremely witty satirical drama by the great Russian writer Nikolai Vasilevich Gogol, his best-known and most performed dramatic work. The plot is based on an anecdote told to Gogol by his great friend Pushkin, to whom something similar allegedly actually happened - he was replaced as a state auditor in the province.
