Summary
Mario Brkljačić: Phantom and Šanel
Phantom and Šanel is, according to the author Mario Brkljačić, a poetic-prose slalom about the love relationship of two maladjusted and peculiar people. Both subjects talk about their relationship and how they see the other in it with mild irony and humor. Through clips written in the form of dramatic monologues, we learn how they met and fell in love, and how they continued their unusual relationship, in which there was no shortage of alcohol or swearing. As always in Brkljačić's works, there is a strong social element that determines the possibilities of these unusual characters and the trajectory of their relationship. By combining verse and prose and introducing two narrative subjects who alternately talk about their relationship and about life in general, the author creates a dynamic patchwork of existentialist literature in which these two protagonists struggle to find some meaning.
