Summary

Steven Erikson: Kostolovci I-II

The rebellion in the Seven Cities is finally suppressed. The last rebel force survived and is holed up in Ja'Gatan under the fanatical command of Lioman. Malaka's Fourteenth Army, tired of fighting, did not like to besiege that ancient fortified city. In fact, the most famous hero of the Empire lost his life in that place and a river of Malagasy blood was spilled there. It is an ominous place, it smells of death.

And yet it is only a side stream in the narrative. Agents of the forces driving a far more dangerous conflict have made their first moves. A crippled god has been given a place in the pantheon and a schism is in sight. Sides must be selected. However, whatever all the gods decide in turn, the rules have changed - irreversibly, terribly - the first blood will be spilled in the mortal world...

Blood will be spilled in the mortal world - the world where Heborik Longarms, the possessed Apsalar, Crocus - the former thief, now better known as the killer Cutter, the Teblorian warrior Karsa Orlong, the ancient Icarium and Mapo Zgolya live. Everyone is in search of a destiny that they can create for themselves, guided by their own will. If only the gods would allow it. But now that the knives are out, the gods are no longer kind to anyone. There will be war, war in heaven. And what does the winner get? Nothing more than just survival...
