Summary
Gustavo Adolfo Becquer: Legede
Lyrically intoned short stories dealing with themes and motifs taken from folklore. The author, a Spanish writer from the 19th century, adopted the influences of German romanticism, as well as the romantic approaches of other cultural circles and linguistic areas, as well as the procedures of folklore and folk legends and fairy tales, thus creating a work of high literary values that relate to both the narrative features and the quality of expression. These stories are characterized by an emphasized fantasy, an atmosphere of the unreal and mysterious, a magical and miraculous plan on which transformations take place, and a longing for the untouchable and ultimate reality.
