Jesenjin Sergej

Summary

Sergej Yesenin: I don't love you very much either

Sergej Yesenin appeared in Russian poetry just before the First World War, at a time when poetry was looking for new paths after symbolism, and with his rural "broad soul", great talent and youthful energy, he brought zest and a fresh breath of folklore motifs into the tired poetic environment. The violence of the October Revolution also shook Yesenin's poetic world, which resulted in a turn to more provocative "tavern" lyrics, so vagrancy and licentious living took center stage in his work. And in the last years of his too short life, his songs became more lyrical-epic (legendary Letter to Mother), in them he seemed to articulate the emotions of all generations, so his harmonious, stylistically flawless verses won him numerous admirers, which, along with the "glamour" of his private life, led to the creation of a myth. Along with the unique lyrics, the unusual interest in Jesenin and his poetry was caused by a stormy private life, an attractive "dreamy" appearance and a shocking suicide at the age of 30 - as if he anticipated the motto of the hero of the movie Knock on any door: "Live fast, die young and be a beautiful corpse." He was the enfant terrible of Bolshevik society, which caused suspicion of the authorities, polemics and disputes surrounding him and his poetry, and even printing bans. All this further stimulated reader interest and the exceptional popularity of Yesenin's poems, which, in the times when his books were "hitchhiked", circulated in manuscripts and were learned by heart! A century later, his verses are still contemporary, they have become timeless, they are freely reprinted all the time (without rusvaj in Russia) and... they are still happy to read!
Sergej Yesenin was an exceptional poet, one of the greatest, bohemian cinematic life, another "rocker" before the appearance of rock and roll in the "dream team" of the Colorful Store. Welcome!
