Bakker Gerbrand

Summary

Gerbrand Bakker: Tour

She introduces herself as Emilie, but that is not her real name, she borrowed it from a poet. A book of collected poems and a portrait of Emily Dickinson are among the few things she brought to this old country house in the back of Wales when she fled her old life. And her old life is Amsterdam, the college where she lost her job due to an affair with a student and her husband who will soon follow her. She also brought something threatening and terrible from her old life, something that now makes her alone, with only ten white geese as company, which one by one disappear without a trace.

Until Bradwen's arrival.

Set in the austere and cold, but beautiful landscape of Wales, Gerbrand Bakker's Tour captivates with its seductive atmosphere of loneliness and menace and a story full of sincere compassion and rarely seen beauty. The crystal precision and apparent simplicity of Bakker's text, under which everything bursts with strong emotions, are also in this work the trademark of one of the most significant European writers of his generation.
