Summary
Viktor Pelevin: Omon Ra
The contemporary cult Russian writer Viktor Pelevin gained the first major sympathy of the Russian readership precisely with the publication of a long novella or short novel - Omon Ra, which forms the first part of this book, while the second part is composed of his lesser-known, selected short stories. With his receptive grotesque irony (steb) similar to Yerofeev's, the author creates alternative versions of Russian history, illuminates the already known from unexpected angles, so in Omon Ra the entire history of Soviet astronautics is presented as one magnificent and bloody deception, without any technical progress. It is revealed that none of the rockets were even meant to fly anywhere, but that everything was, in fact, a simulation, recorded in huge secret underground studios.
