Dobrica Ćosić's "Time of Evil" trilogy presents a different reflection on the turning points that led to the civil war in the middle of the 20th century and the birth of socialist Yugoslavia from the ashes of the old regime. When its first part, Grešnica, was published in 100,000 copies in 1985, the critics of the time evaluated it as an "anti-communist pamphlet". The novels Otpadnik (1986) and Vernik (1990) continue Ćosić's saga about the Katic family with historical figures of the time and with an open revision of official historiography.
