Summary
The vice of writing Zdravko Zima
If the writer's time should be fixed, then it is the dawn, the borderline state where lights and shadows mix, the nothingness of love. It is that hard-to-determine space in which, as Marquez claims, time staggers, but in which the writer navigates like a fish in water. In one story, Mrs. Lazara concludes that conquest is a vice. By all accounts, writing is also a vice, with which Marquez conquers territory and in which dominance is the only desirable thing.
