Summary
Grace Metalious: Return to Peyton Town
In many of its features and characteristics, Peyton Town with Return to Peyton Town resembles and is a counterpart to the cloister trilogy of the French writer Gabriel Chevalier.
Grace Metalious is not a professional writer. When she wrote her chronicle of Peyton, she was an ordinary housewife, thirty-two years old, with three children and the divorced wife of a teacher. After the publication of her works, she was exiled from her hometown, her estranged husband was dismissed from his job, and other discriminatory measures were taken. She went to New York where she died at the end of 1968.
