Summary

Milica Jakovljević: The Wounded Eagle

"The Wounded Eagle" is one of the most famous and important works of Milica Jakovljević Mir-Jam, because it deals with the themes of love, passion, inner dilemmas, but also the struggle for personal freedom and happiness.

The novel "The Wounded Eagle" follows the life story of Nada, a young woman who, like many of Mir-Jam's heroines, is trapped in the world of social norms, expectations and love complications. The main character, Boris, is known for his intransigence, fighting spirit and strong character, but due to past experiences he is emotionally "wounded", which is also symbolized in the title of the novel - "wounded eagle". He is badly wounded, not only physically, but also emotionally because of his past and love disappointments.

Although Nada is extremely attracted to him, Boris struggles with his own internal conflicts and insecurities, having suffered emotional pain in past relationships. Like a wounded eagle, he is aware of his inner suffering and struggle with his own feelings, so it is very difficult for him to fully open up and surrender to love.

Nada, on the other hand, has her own inner struggle. Although she loves Boris, she faces her own fears and insecurities that come with her relationship with him. The theme of social norms and family runs through her story because she is largely subject to family pressure and the expectations of others.

Through the characters of Boris and Nada, Mir-Jam deals with the themes of love and inner strength. The symbolism of the "wounded eagle" refers to the idea that even after being wounded, the characters are still trying to rise, fight for their love and happiness. Although it is not easy for them, through emotional turbulence and facing past experiences, the characters grow and develop.
