"Dictionary of necessity" was created from 1993 to 2000 as an autopoetic response to "Dictionary of chance" (Profil, 2006), which Vukčević was writing at the same time. In his review of the collection for the author, Matvejević states: "Lidija Vukčević possesses a strong talent that is enveloped by a breezy and cheerful lyrical light. In addition to her poetic talent, she also possesses a developed critical awareness that is best expressed in a genre melange that condenses the narrative and the dramatic into meditative diary entries. Living for the most part on the sidelines, even when she is in her home, Lidija Vukčević did not move in the literary "crowds." She meditated, endured her valid attitude.
