Summary
Matko Sršen: Kingdom of Rokaška
The Kingdom of Rokaška is a children's state founded by small residents of the Izaroka quarter of Dubrovnik's Old Town in the mid-1950s. They are neither Molnar's self-sacrificing nor Golding's cruel; they are just children oppressed by the strange limitations and opportunities of their time, and constantly eager for play. The Old Town and its walls are the perfect stage for their day and night show, but also their raison d'etat.
The Kingdom of Rokaš is not a children's book after all, but rather a war novel. Unusual in its kind, but still a war, in which the little Rokas are at war with the big ones, members of the People's Militia. Lovrijenac and in other Dubrovnik plays, armed with an imagination that transcends all social boundaries.
