The Smogovci and the Terrible Bongo is the second novel in a series of books about the Smogovci, which describe the adventures of the Vragec family and residents of Zagreb's Naselko. In this novel, Hrvoje Hitrec continues the story of the love between Dunja and Mazal, Dada and Marina, about the funny adventures of the cute Nosonja, but also about the miraculous abilities of little Bong, the son of Dragec Vragec, a genius kid. In a series of comic situations that cause irresistible laughter, the plot of the book develops, which begins with a summer adventure in a haunted castle, where Vrageci and Nosonja stop petty thieves Black Jack and his stupid assistant Kumpić, and ends with the first parting of Dunja and Mazal. In the abundance of humor, there is also a touching episode with the blind girl Lora, to whom Bongo restores her sight and health, and another love is born that will last forever. One of the initiators of the plot is Uncle Flek, who tried to permanently move into the Vragecs' house, but he did not succeed.
With this novel, H. Hitrec confirmed the success of the first Smog residents and himself as a storyteller close to children and youth, who became his most loyal audience.
