Summary
Gabriel Garcia Marquez: One Hundred Years of Solitude
The novel chronologically follows the Buendía family and the history of the mythical village of Macondo. Although the title of the book directly suggests that the novel takes place over a hundred years, it is not actually strictly limited to that time period, and many critics agree that "one hundred years" is used as a metaphor. This indeterminacy of time contributes to the interpretation of time in a way characteristic of the novel itself, in which thoughts and impressions are interwoven that time repeats itself, changes speed or completely stops flowing in different parts of the story and that all events somehow take place simultaneously.
