Krleža's novel from the early period, first published under the changed title Three Cavaliers of Miss Melanija, in 1922 as a regular edition of Matica Hrvatska. The title was arbitrarily changed by the secretary of Matica at the time, Maksimilijan Petanjek, because it was more "in the spirit" of the Croatian language". The importance of this text for understanding Krleža and Croatian modern prose in general.
