Summary
Christopher Lasch: The Culture of Narcissism
According to Christopher Lasch, narcissism is not only a psychological disorder of the individual, but a problem that spills over into the entire modern society. His book The Culture of Narcissism shows how the atmosphere of ideological oversaturation, which creates a feeling of reduced control over life, negatively affects moral values and the development of pathological-narcissistic traits. While faith in the future disappears in the face of narrow survival in the present, politics turns into a spectacle, and people devote themselves to internal, psychological survival, focusing exclusively on their own body, emotions and success. Although it was written almost half a century ago, Christopher Lash's book is becoming more and more relevant in a society obsessed with working on oneself, in which technological development is ever faster and in which man increasingly turns away from the community, protecting his own integrity and image.
