The title itself, as well as the theme of Vuk Isaković's military service, a theme that has long since gone beyond the scope of the novel itself and become a possible parable of the historical fate of the Serbian community, this novel remains engraved in the consciousness of members of Serbian culture. It is a text that reminds us again and again how literary language can be engaged on every level, auditory-rhythmic, informative, pictorial-evocative, and in that totality overwhelm us with its artistic power. It is about a way of writing that is generally described in literary criticism as the lyricization of prose, and which actually in the history of literature implies a fluctuation of language and images that is difficult to repeat, which means an oscillation of the narrative flow - simultaneously seductive and melancholic-disturbing, simultaneously with a hypnotic-ethereal ascent and an abysmal descent into somatic-affective life.
