Summary
Mikhail Bakhtin: Lectures on the History of Russian Literature
Notes by R.M. Mirkine
The fact that Mirkine's Notes were published in the second volume of Mihail Bakhtin's Collected Works with extraordinary scientific comments and notes speaks of their indisputable value, not only for researchers of Bakhtin's heritage, but also for a wider readership. These are home lectures, which the young Bakhtin gave primarily in his apartment in Vitepsk, and then in Leningrad. In the title of her manuscript, R. M. Mirkina stated the years when the lectures were held (1922–1927), and thematically they cover Russian literature of the 19th and 20th centuries, including writers who were Bakhtin's contemporaries. In these lectures, the voice of Bakhtin's thinker or Bakhtin's literary theoretician is not always recognizable, but in them the lively thought and intonation of an exceptional man and pedagogue with his own observation of the most diverse aspects of life are always recognizable.
