Summary
Ivica Matičević: Triumph of the Soul: a book about Josip Kosor
It is about critical-analytical descriptions of selected works of Josip Kosor, one of the most important Croatian expressionists and writer who was recognized and accepted by cultural and artistic Europe in the first decades of the last century. The texts gathered in this book are the result of the work on editing and publishing Kosor's works in the edition Djela Josip Kosor, so this is, in a certain sense, an additional volume to the mentioned edition. While preparing a series of texts by that writer, Ivica Matičević also wrote a kind of reading diary in parallel, focusing on those topics that particularly intrigued him in a particular phase of his work on the Works. This is why this edition is extremely stimulating for literary history, especially the history of Croatian expressionism, because it positions Kosor even more firmly in the matrix of avant-garde creativity. In the end, this edition also opens up opportunities for further and deeper study of Croatian modern literature, and in the approach to Kosor's poetics, the work is certainly indispensable.
