A selection of inspired and literary texts about the works of contemporary Croatian and foreign painters and sculptors, Ljerka Mifka, is an unusually original book within the Croatian art-critic profession. The manner of designing essays in which the literary and the artistic are equally intertwined, the criticism that tends to essentialism instead of informativeness, are the fundamental peculiarities of Mifkin's aesthetic-essayist approach to works of art, especially those in which the spiritual-spiritualist element prevails, works whose figurativeness is reduced and the role of color and gesture is strongly emphasized. Such artistic preoccupation of Mifka was partly caused by a kind of rebellion against the ruling artistic tendency of the seventies and eighties of the last century, a tendency that understands art only in the service of science and call the artistic positions that theory precedes work. For Ljerka Mifka (Zagreb, 1943-2002), poet, translator, literary and art critic, this is only the second published book from her rich and significant body of art essays and criticism.
