Summary
Matthaus Merian: The course of the Danube (Totius regni Hungariae maximaeque partis Danubii Fluminis, una cum adjacentibus et finitimis regionibus)
Copper engraving
The map represents one of the many versions of the very popular depiction of the course of the Danube from Regensburg to the Black Sea. The map is very chiseled and, considering the large area of the territory it shows, contains a lot of information and toponyms, and includes the entire coast to Dubrovnik.
Matthaus Merian (1593-1650) was a German topographer, graphic artist and publisher. His most famous works are "Theautrum Europeam..." and "Archeologica Cosmica". Both works were published in several editions.
